Valentine’s Day bike ride will celebrate love and freedom on wheels

Press Release – Frocks on Bikes
Wellington women are reminded to glam up and make a date for Sunday’s Frocks on Bikes special Valentine’s Day ride.

The Love to Roll 2011 ride from Oriental Bay to the Island Bay Festival aims to celebrate love and the freedom of two wheels. There are great prizes to be won for those who register – a Mamachari bike, dinner for two at Duke Carvell’s, Paramount double movie passes and a clothing gift voucher from Emma Collections. Prize categories are Best-Dressed Couple (any combination), Most Awesome Bike and Most Chic Lover to Roll.

Isabella Cawthorn from Frocks on Bikes says last year’s ride attracted 151 “lovers to roll”, plus one dog, and this year they are hoping for many more.

‘It’s a fun and funky day out for Valentine’s Day, so come along dressed for a date. We encourage ladies to bring significant others, as well as friends, and have a fantastic time.’

Love to Roll will begin at Oriental Bay, near Freyberg Pool and then head around the bays through Kilbirnie to Lyall Bay. There will be a muster stop outside the iconic Maranui Café and a judging session en route. The ride will finish at the Island Bay Festival where prize winners will be announced and spot prizes can be won.

Isabella says the aim of the day is to show how much fun you and your date can have on two wheels – and all while looking great.

‘Hopping on a bike is such a win-win for anyone and you don’t need special clothes or to be a sporty person to enjoy the benefits. You can cycle in whatever you like to wear – even a glamorous frock and heels!

Love Your Lane | Valentine’s Day Ride

You’re invited to Love Your Lane, the first B.F.O.C. group ride of the year on Valentine’s Day. Bring your sweetie, or come looking for that special cycling someone, and we’ll all tour around town at a leisurely pace.
If you’re in the mood for love, dress up (cupid, cherub, black widow, love bug, a kissing booth, Eliot Spitzer, Queen of Hearts, a Care Bear, blah, blah, blah, zzzz…) and decorate your bike. This is encouraged but NOT REQUIRED to ride. It’s going to be chilly and it might snow (!!!), so get cozy.

Prizes for the best dressed-include: Treats from Oak Cliff’s Dude, Sweet Chocolate, and a one-of-a-kind Valentine-centric B.F.O.C. T-shirt.

Lets hook up at Main Street Garden Park at 2 p.m., cruise through downtown to Cedar Springs, down Turtle Creek Blvd., and over to Uptown where we’ll make a stop at The Ginger Man before heading back to our nice new “Park” park downtown.

Valentines Day Bike Ride

Valentines Day Bike Ride

With the beautiful weather here in Victoria an opportunity came about during a break in the 2010 Olympic coverage to cycle the Galloping Goose Regional Trail on Sunday February 14, Valentines Day.

Taking off from near the Saanich Centre on the trail it soon came apparent we were not the only couples with the same idea. With the afternoon temperature at around 12 degrees Celsius (55 degrees Fahrenheit) and sunny who could blame them. The conditions were absolutely perfect for a bike ride or walk with your sweetheart.

The route taken was to go towards the new Uptown development (the old Town and Country Shopping Centre) and then travel west towards Langford. This part of the regional trail was ideal in trying a new Kona hybrid bike that was purchased earlier the day earlier from Russ Hay’s Bicycle Shop.

A real surprise on this section of the trail was found in View Royal at the Atkins Avenue parking lot (around the 10 km mark) where there was a section upgrade of the trail. Paid for through grants from Canada’s Economic Action Plan and the BC Economic Stimulus Plan 2.67 kilometres (1.7 miles) of the trail has been vastly improved.

Rather than going over compacted gravel the trail is now paved all the way past Thetis Lake to Wilfert Road and Wale Road near the Juan De Fuca Recreation Centre. By having this improvement now a cyclist can almost make the same time schedule as the Old Island Hwy but be completely away from traffic. What an improvement to an already jewel of the CRD.

I really like the scrapes on the knee pucks AND especially the valve cover. Nice job! You've been putting her to work!
